This grand old house was built in 1879 in Winnsboro South Carolina. It was lovingly restored by its current owners and the home and gardens are a beautiful sight to see. I painted this on location during a plein air event with a great group of local artists as part of the Home and Garden Tour. Loads of fun on a beautifully clear day in May 2015.
Original oil on 8x10 birch panel.

Cummins/McMaster/Laird House c1879
Owned by Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Laird
202 West High Street, Winnsboro SC
This lovely Victorian on the corner of Evans and High Streets is the home of Donnie and Pam Laird. Joseph Cummings built the house in 1879. The exterior of the house is embellished with excellent examples of gingerbread" millwork, scrolled brackets and bay windows found in Queen Anne style architecture.
Arched double entry doors with glazed glass and original hardware open to a generous center hall. Floor to ceiling double hung style windows, known as "slip head" or jib windows, allow you to open the lower sash and walk right out onto the porch. One of the original doors retains a penciled inscription, most likely from the manufacturer, stating that it was being made for the Cummings residence in Winnsboro, South Carolina.
The Laird's purchased the house January 1, 2000. Many renovations have been made inside and outside. A matching west wing porch, a sunroom porch and garden house give a pleasing park-like quality to the landscape.
