The Art of Community

One of my 'side gigs' is serving as the Community Art Project Manager in Chapin for the Crooked Creek Art League. It's been a good year for our efforts in that realm with successful grant funding secured which enabled us to commission not one, but two, large new scale public art installations AND launch the overall Chapin Art Trail.

On April 25th, we unveiled and dedicated the first of the two pieces. "Spirit of the Lake" was designed and created by local artist Olga Yukhno. Olga is a talented artist and friend, and it was a thrill to help make this possible. This piece can be found at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Chapin Road in the heart of Chapin.

The second piece, a large-scale mural, is scheduled to be completed later this summer.

Both pieces will be part of the Chapin Art Trail, which was developed in partnership with the Town of Chapin and the Crooked Creek Art League. It is designed to stir the public imagination and sense of creativity as well as beautify the community with public art displays created by local artists. The trail includes currently installed public art pieces and galleries throughout the greater Chapin area. This area is rich with talented local artists and art lovers. There are quite a few pieces of public art throughout the area and new ones are being added all the time. So, if you want to see a bit more of my other creative pursuits check out the trail. I invite you to play along by hunting through Chapin to see if you can find all the great art on display on the Chapin Art Trail. Complete the online Scavenger Hunt Form by correctly identifying the requested information for each piece of artwork. Turn your completed form online to be entered into a quarterly drawing to win prizes.

This has been a major project for me, and I love the chance it gives me to give back by sharing even more art with others. I have also participated in creating artwork for some of the earlier community art projects and plan to again!
